The Guild usually meets on the third Tuesday of the month from September to May (except December) at Chatelech Secondary School in Sechelt. Monthly meetings encourage an open information exchange about wood, woodworking, tools and methods. This provides an opportunity to share experiences, ideas, techniques and is for the mutual enjoyment for members and guests. A program of special interest, presented by the Education Committee, is featured at each meeting, . Guests and new members are always welcome.
The next Suncoast Woodcrafters Guild 2024/25 regular
monthly meeting will be Tuesday, April 21 2026 at 7:00 pm
at Chatelech Secondary School Library
5904 Cowrie Street, Sechelt
PROGRAM
BOWLS OF GENEROSITY
The idea for the April program was inspired by Brian Lucas’s gift of over 150 rough-turned bowls and hollow forms. After turning each one on his lathe, Brian stored them on wooden shelves under his deck for many years. In January 2025, Brian decided to donate them to the Guild with the request that they be sold to interested members who would then want to complete them. A very successful sale was held in mid-May with all funds going into the Guild’s account.
The evening will begin with a slide show featuring photographs of the unusual journey of Brian's rough-turned bowls and hollow forms: all items were transferred from Brian’s storage shelves to another member’s workshop for sorting and pricing; on sale day, they were moved by truck and trailer to rows of display tables in Roberts Creek; and finally, they were taken to each purchaser's workshop for completion. Some of these items are now featured in this evening's education program.
While most of the members who selected items at the sale are lathe owners, other members used texturing methods to apply various surface treatments. All combined, they will surely make an impact on all who love the beauty of wood and enjoy hearing about creative and technical experiences.
We are very pleased that Brian Lucas and his wife Jeanette will attend the meeting and be central to the evening’s discussions. While many members have known Brian for years, newer members will enjoy meeting him for the first time and hearing his commentary.
A Special Note to Brian:
All of us in the Suncoast Woodcrafters Guild want you to know that we are sincerely grateful for your generosity and continuing support of the Guild.
