Suncoast Woodcrafters Guild
AGM - January 17, 2006 - 19:00 Hours
The Annual General Meeting was held in Sechelt Elementary School. There were twenty two regular members and one guest in attendance.
Brian Lucas was unable to attend so Tom Hourigan, Vice President, presided over the meeting. He started by introducing the guest, Ken Rogers. Since this was our first AGM, there were no minutes from a previous AGM. B. Bell gave the treasurer’s report. Copies of the financial statement were circulated.
Total income (membership fees) for 2005 was $1,215.00. Total expenses were $869.50. This amount includes $130 incorporation costs. As of the end of December 2005, the club’s assets were $600.50 this includes $25 shares in the SCCU and $280 in 2006 fees that were paid in 2005.
Moved by Hugh Monroe and seconded by Ken Walker that the treasurer’s report by accepted as read. Motion passed unanimously.

Jul. 19/05 - Brian Lucas hosted a shop open-house
Aug. 16/05 - Ken Walker hosted a shop open-house
Sept. 20/05- Tutorial on Sharpening by David Beauchesne
Oct. 18/05 - Structure, Properties and Behavior of Wood--- Les Jozsa of Forintek from Vancouver presented a well illustrated talk
Nov. 15/05 - Freud demonstrated the making of a raised panel door using their Router and Router Table
Dec. /05 Christmas break—no meeting
Ferry costs were paid for the May and October presenters. No cost was incurred for accommodation as the visiting, non-corporate presenters were billeted at a member’s home.
Dremel will present in February. Future plans are for presentations by Makita and a repeat by the Turners from Vancouver
The committee strongly requests that the members submit their ideas for topics and presenters for future programs.
D. Bell reported on our website. We will have to renew by January 29 to keep the domain in our name. The cost for one year is $75.05. Moved by D. Bell and seconded by B. Bell that we renew our contract with the webmaster. Motion was passed unanimously.
T. Hourigan reported on the Toys for Kids program. 80 toys were delivered to charitable organizations. The following members participated in the 2005 Toys for Kids program:

The members were thanked for their hard work and it gave the guild great exposure since it was mentioned in the press as well as on local TV. We are also extremely grateful to the Sunshine Coast Home Building Centre for their generous donation of materials for this project. A Certificate of Appreciation will be delivered to this organization. For 2006, w
e hope for an even better participation.
T. Hourigan mentioned that a tentative date (June meeting) is set for the 2X4 Challenge. Guidelines for the 2X4 Challenge were handed out and we would like to have a fairly good idea of how many members intend to participate in this event by the February meeting.
Alex Lenko, chaired the nominating committee. He reported that the following candidates had indicated that they were willing to stand for election.

Treasurer – Barb Bell
Directors – Ken Walker and Hugh Monroe
Alex Lenko then asked if there were any nominations from the floor. There were no new nominations from the floor. Moved by Alex Lenko and Seconded by Len Pakulak that the committee report be accepted as read. Motion passed. The executive for 2006 was elected by acclamation.
New Business:
There were no new items and the AGM was adjourned at 19:30 hours
Jigs and Fixtures
Several members had brought along a variety of interesting jigs and fixtures as outlined below:
Dave Beauchesne - Jig for using sander belts, a 90° jig for a table saw and a jig for making fishing nets. He brought two of these wonderful nets. All agreed that these were too nice to put in the water.
Roy Mitten - Jig to ensure even spacing of holes in shelves when used with a self-centering drill and a great jig for re-sawing wood on a table saw.
Ken Walker - 90° Jig.
Lars Larsson - Jig for holding frames when gluing, a holder for small parts when sanding, a jig for making bevels on the router, and a jig for cutting small parts on a table saw.
Ken Rogers - Fixture to be used as a stop when cutting multiple parts on a mitre saw or similar.
David Bell - Backrest for a bench with an exceptional carving of wolves and a router jig to make mortises and tenons for this bench.
Tom Hourigan - His favourite fixture called “The Gripper” for use on a table saw.
Hugh Monroe - His favourite fixture, a Nova chuck for his lathe.
Len Pakulak - Discussed a jig that he used for cutting tubes.
Peter Clayden - Jig for routing hinges and similar jobs.
T. Hourigan thanked everyone who had brought along their jigs and fixtures. Then he announced that the Inside Passage School of Fine Woodworking is having an open house on January 28, 2006, between the hours of 13:00 and 16:00. There is also show at 19:00 hours. Tom also reminded the members that we have a $200 discount on summer courses at this school.
